China conducts third day of drills simulating "sealing off" Taiwan, with an aircraft carrier reportedly involved. Taiwan has reported detecting Chinese jets to the east, while China confirmed that its Shandong aircraft carrier took part.

The exercises began after Taiwan's president met the US House Speaker, but analysts suggest that the drills are not as big as those that followed a high-profile US visit last year.
Taiwan sees itself as a sovereign state, while China views it as a breakaway province that will eventually come under its control. The USS Milius has also been sent to the South China Sea by the US.
