What was the happy experience of being declared free of tuition on the first day of school?
Just yesterday, students from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City received great news!
The outgoing Rector Laura Sparks announced publicly that all graduating students, including 4th grade students this year, would be exempted from school fees for the next four years.

School fees were waived because three alumni provided a total of $6 million in grants this summer.
George Reeves and Ross Wisnewski, who graduated from Cooper Engineering College in 1964 and his wife and business partner, John Manuck and Mary, who graduated from Engineering College in 1969, and an anonymous donor, respectively.
You can imagine how happy the students are!
However, school fees are already the “old tradition” of Cooper.
Since its inception, the school has insisted on providing free university education until 2014, when the financial crisis affected it. However, the school has not forgotten its original education, and in 2018 it introduced Plan to Return to Full-Tull-Tution Scholariships, the “Resumed Full School Scholarship Scheme.”
* The plan sets out a 10-year timetable in which the school hopes to continue to provide, on a sustainable basis, full tuition scholarships for every Cooper undergraduate by saving, reducing expenditure, raising funds and other necessary income increases. To date, more than $114 million in new funding has been raised.
